Board Meeting Update

Highlights from the Meeting

The Sunnyvale School District held a Regular Board Meeting on March 12, 2026, to discuss several updates and initiatives affecting our community. Below is a summary of the key actions and reports from the session.

Columbia Middle School Wrestling Champions

The Board celebrated a historic achievement by three student-athletes who captured Valley Athletic League, North Section, and Santa Clara County titles:

  • Xyla Delos Santos (6th Grade, 75 lbs.)
  • Mariama Streb (8th Grade, 150 lbs.)
  • Mateo Delos Santos (8th Grade, 145 lbs.) – Repeat champion

This marks the first time in program history that three wrestlers have secured county championships in the same season.

Second Interim Budget Presentation

In accordance with California Education Code, the District submitted its financial report for July 1 through January 31. Based on staff analysis and current projections, the Board certified the District’s ability to meet all financial obligations for the current fiscal year and the subsequent two years.
While the district will meet all fiscal obligations over the next two years, we are implementing a formal Fiscal Stabilization Plan to eliminate a projected $11 million structural deficit by June 30, 2028, and ensure the long-term solvency and sustainability of our schools. 2025-26 Comprehensive School Safety Plans (CSSP)

The Board approved the 2025-26 CSSPs for all district sites. These annually updated plans outline essential strategies for emergency preparedness, crime prevention, bullying intervention, and physical/social-emotional safety to ensure a secure learning environment.

Education Technology Joint Powers Authority

The Board approved Resolution R26-19, authorizing the District to join the EdTech JPA. This California-based coalition helps school districts reduce administrative overhead and procurement costs while strengthening data privacy protections for educational software.

Supplementary Retirement Plan (PARS)

The Board approved a Supplementary Retirement Plan (SRP) for certificated and classified non-management employees. Designed in partnership with Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS), this incentive program encourages early retirement to generate fiscal savings or achieve cost neutrality for the 2025-26 school year.

Arts Education Planning Sessions

The Board approved an agreement with the Santa Clara County Office of Education to develop a Districtwide Arts Strategic Plan. Funded by Proposition 28, this partnership will focus on expanding equitable access to the arts, gathering stakeholder input, and aligning arts programming with district priorities.

Community Recognition

A resolution was passed to recognize Women’s History Month in alignment with the district's "Sunnyvale Promise".

Future Board Meeting: Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 6:00 PM.
